SAVING OUR LOCAL HIGH STREET, ONE INITIATIVE AT A TIME
Following an initial meeting of local people keen to 'do something' about the decline of our local high street back in March 2017, the Ham & North Kingston Community Interest Company (THANK CIC) was formed.
Six months later, the CIC in turn launched Ham Parade Market in an effort to reverse the flagging fortunes of Ham Parade.
The market has been a huge success, bringing back some of our lost services such as a butcher and greengrocer (albeit only once a month), supporting local charities, businesses, craftspeople and musicians and crucially, providing a place for the community to come together.
We've built planters, organised clean-ups, got the arches on Tudor Drive fixed, contributed funding to a new bench and bought a fantastic new set of Christmas lights for the Parade.
But we want to do more. We believe that ultimately the only way to guarantee that we get the businesses we want on Ham Parade is if we join together and buy (or long-term lease) one of the buildings. If the community is the landlord, the community has the final say.
